Navel Flooding Breath
Navel flooding is a method for sipping breath into and behind our belly organs. In navel flooding, we allow breath’s movement to widen our back abdominal wall as it spreads. Breathing into the deep back abdomen is a major key for allowing breath to penetrate through our organs.
Centered around the beautiful sea creature of our deep belly — the mesentery1 — navel flooding breath seeps and waves through our organs and other abdominal structures.
Its movement seamlessly coordinates with the thoracic diaphragm above and the pelvic diaphragm below creating a fully unified breath in the torso.
Navel flooding is soothing, enlivening and nurturant to body and mind. This takes you right to the level of the prana itself!
The primary mesentery is a fluid, fascial structure that tethers the small intestines to the
back abdominal wall. Our mesenteries are double layered, thick, and waving weaves of fascial tissues. Many folds of mesentery emanate from the back abdominal wall. They are rich with parasympathetic and sympathetic nerve fibers, blood and lymph vessels, fat, and connective tissues.
