For Teachers and Students
There are relaxation techniques…and then, there is the crown jewel of yoga — yoga nidra.
Magical and delightful, yoga nidra is the original “non-sleep deep rest technique” (NSDR) that has recently been popularized by Dr. Andrew Huberman, Professor of Neurobiology at Stanford University School of Medicine. Huberman’s studies of yoga nidra’s effects on brain chemistry are groundbreaking for western science. Western science is beginning to uncover more and more about how meditation and yoga affect our brains. It is an exciting time!
BLISSFUL RELAXATION
Yoga nidra has its roots deep in yoga’s history at least as far back as the arising of the tantric schools in the middle ages. It is often referred to as blissful relaxation because its technique delves into much more profoundly restful states in the brain and nervous system than do most of the common relaxation techniques.
The purity and simplicity of the practice allows our conscious awareness to dive in to the deepest levels of embodied comfort and relaxation. We experience directly the very home of nurturance, clarity, resilience, and even love, that under lies who we are.
HOW DO WE DO THIS?
Yoga nidra is easy to do. It is a led practice and takes about 30 minutes. I will guide you. Simply listen to the prompts and move your attention from place to place in your body as we go along. This session promises to leave you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated way beyond your expectations:
Lie down comfortably, listen to my prompts, and follow along as we move through the body… feeling as we go.
No stress. No concentration.
Just listen, feel, and follow.
You will lose track. (All part of the process!)
Just pick up wherever we are and continue.
No effort or concentration is required. It is all about increasing ease and comfort.
I am not overstating it when I say yoga nidra is magic.
Enjoy.
